Moziah Bridges grew up in Memphis with a distinctive taste for style, often wanting to dress in three-piece suits even as a young child, but frustrated by the limited, unremarkable accessory options available for children in stores. When his grandmother, a former seamstress, taught him to sew at age nine, an entirely new possibility opened up.
Bridges began making his own bow ties, neckties and pocket squares from fabric remnants, initially running the business β which he named Mo's Bows β from his family's kitchen table. What started as a way to dress the way he wanted quickly attracted attention for its originality and craftsmanship.
In 2014, Bridges appeared on Shark Tank, and while he didn't secure an investment from the panel, the appearance led to a mentorship from fashion mogul Daymond John, who helped connect Bridges with an experienced manufacturer to scale production without losing the brand's distinct handmade character.
Mo's Bows has since grown into a nationally recognised brand with sales reaching hundreds of thousands of dollars, including a landmark 2017 licensing deal with the NBA. Bridges has met President Obama and other prominent figures, been featured in Fortune and other major publications, and continues to run the company while pursuing his education.
