Clive Augustus Myrie was born on 25 August 1964 in Bolton, Lancashire, to Jamaican immigrant parents, his mother a seamstress and his father a factory worker, and studied law at the University of Sussex before joining the BBC's journalism trainee scheme in 1987.
Myrie became a full-time BBC foreign correspondent in 1996, beginning a career that would take him to more than 80 countries, serving as the corporation's Asia, Africa, Washington and Europe correspondent and reporting on conflicts including Croatia, Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq.
With a particular focus on American politics, Myrie covered the administrations of three US presidents and reported on seven presidential elections, including the elections of Donald Trump and Joe Biden, establishing himself as one of the BBC's most trusted voices on international affairs.
Myrie became a presenter on the BBC News Channel in 2009 and went on to anchor the One, Six and Ten O'Clock News bulletins on BBC One, including presenting live from Kyiv during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine and hosting the BBC's coverage of the 2024 UK general election.
In 2021 Myrie took over as host of the long-running quiz show Mastermind, and has since presented acclaimed travel documentaries including Clive Myrie's Caribbean Adventure, winning a BAFTA Daytime Award in 2025 and an honorary degree from the University of Oxford, alongside Royal Television Society honours for Network Presenter and TV Journalist of the Year.
