📖 Biography

Dwight Eversley Yorke was born on 3 November 1971 in Canaan, Tobago, and was signed by English club Aston Villa as a teenager in 1989, going on to spend nearly a decade with the club and scoring 74 goals across 231 appearances.

In August 1998 Yorke moved to Manchester United for £12.6 million, and that same season formed a devastating striking partnership with Andy Cole, helping United complete a historic treble, winning the Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League in a single season.

Yorke was the Premier League's leading goalscorer in the 1998-99 season with 18 goals, and in 2000-01 became the first non-European player to score 100 Premier League goals, cementing his reputation as one of the finest strikers of his generation.

Beyond his club career, Yorke made 74 appearances for Trinidad and Tobago over 20 years, and in 2006 he captained the team to its first-ever FIFA World Cup finals appearance in Germany, a landmark achievement for the small island nation.

After retiring from playing, Yorke moved into coaching and later became head coach of the Trinidad and Tobago national team, having a major stadium in his homeland already named in his honour during his playing days, in recognition of his status as the most famous footballer to emerge from the Caribbean.
